App Modified Bitumen Torch Applied Roofing
Atactic Polypropylene (APP) modified bitumen membrane is constructed with a high performance polyester reinforcement resulting in a roofing membrane with exceptional tensile strength and dimensional stability. Combined with high quality resins, this combination ensures that your roof is completely impermeable to rainwater and is also resistant to otherwise damaging UV rays.
APP roofing membrane is extremely durable, the combination of asphalt and resin means that it is resistant to punctures and other abrasive damage. Its core is a strong, resilient non-woven polyester mat that is coated with an APP polymer modified asphalt and surfaced with mineral granules for UV protection. The strength and resistance of it means that it not only has a life of up to 20 years, but that that life will be virtually free from repairs except in the most extreme circumstances.
APP roofing is sometimes also referred to as rubberized asphalt and is one of the most common type of roofing to be used on flat roofs. The asphalt is melted onto the roof using a torch creating an impermeable roof that has an average life of between 12 and 20 years. The cost is comparable to the traditional tar and gravel that is frequently used to cover flat roofs, but APP gives better results because the membrane is reinforced with polyester instead of the fiberglass used in hot asphalt roofs.
APP modified bitumen roofing membrane also comes with a highly reflective granule surface which meets, or exceeds most standards for “cool roofing” and is listed with the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) with an SRI of 90. The membrane has excellent granule retention, stain and discoloration resistance and UV stabilization for long term durability and performance. Many APP membranes are solvent-free and environmentally friendly. APP membrane can be used as part of a Manufacturer’s Warranted multi-ply system, or as a flashing membrane in all applicable specifications in accordance with recommended installation practices.
